Amal and George were spotted out for a dress up dinner recently at the well known terrace dining area of Villa d'Este, Como, near George Clooney's Como residence. Amal wore a floaty lace dress with a v-neck and see through lower skirt panel. The published pictures were grainy and made it difficult to make out the design and make of the gown. The popular blog at amalalamuddinstyle.wordpress.com came up with the ID for the dress - a
romantic Lace Dress by Stella McCartney. It would be nice to see this dress on Amal on another occasion with better photos to show for it. This is fairly unlikely if, like most women in the public eye (Kate Middleton, Duchess of Cambridge is admired for going against the "wear once" custom), Amal follows the "wear-one-time" principal when it comes to fashion statements such as this.
For us regular folks it can be difficult to imagine wearing a fabulously expensive clothing item only once but we live in a different world where we are not inundated by clothes offered gratis through stylists and designers seeking exposure for their latest creations. High profile celebrities in the public eye are subjected to a constant stream of the latest fashions and accessories for all occasions. For an up and coming designer the publicity generated by a photo of their dress on the celeb du jour is the prize. If a dress has been photographed on the celebrity the task is complete and the dress usually goes back to the stylist, if there was one, or is donated or gifted etc. George Clooney remarked in an interview recently about Amal's extensive closet space. However, whether she has a stylist or not we can assume that she will not be keeping many of the clothing items she is publicly photographed in. Casual outfits may reappear but statement dresses and gowns may be one-off appearances.
The temptation for those who seek to emulate the latest fashions worn by celebrities can lead to a closet full of clothing that is barely worn. So we all need a buying and an exit strategy for our closets.
A link to the dress pictured above on eBay this week Click Here to see it. Amal Clooney wore a fairly similar dress from the same collection.
A below is an inexpensive alternative red lace dress for under $25.00
Tip: remove the sleeves and shorten the lining of the skirt and you have a similar look to the one Amal Clooney wore recently - -see previous post.
