Coco Chanel

A radio telephone talk on the subject of fashion, by Madame Chanel, one of the most distinguished dress designers In the world, was transmitted from London last night shortly after 10 o'clock, through station 2UW.

The broadcast come from a room in the Ritz Hotel, London. Madame Chanel sent greetings to several of the leading stores in Sydney and Australia. She said that the desire to be dressed in the latest fashion was inspired by the wish to remain young and beautiful. Fashion was a great and serious work, and the sustained interest of women enabled millions of people throughout the world to be kept in constant employment in the fashion industry.

The famous designer suggested that men should take more interest In women's clothes, and should assist them in the choice of their fashions. To be elegantly dressed, she said, was to be suitably dressed. Being a woman, she was unable to know just what form the prevailing modes would take from day to day, and therefore gave no actual hints.

The address was preceded by an Introductory talk by Mrs. Albeit Littlejohn, who described the purchase of a frock from one of the great and exclusive fashion salons In Paris

The sleeveless Jacket and skirt outfit from Chanel Spring 2012 collection outfit was worn by Princess Caroline of Hanover at the launch of the new Chanel Jewelry collection in Monaco. The top is classic Chanel in a flattering blue tweed that looks great with a tan.

Blue Organza Ribbon Rosette

Blue Organza Ribbon

The skirt features appliqued ribbons and looks like it would be easy enough for those of you handy with the needle and thread to embellish a white skirt with ribbons to create a similar effect and at little cost. Look for Sheer Organza Ribbon in a range of Blues - Click here to see a selection on eBay. With white or matching thread, pin the ribbon on to a white skirt in random zig zag lines as seen in the photos and press on the inside with an iron to set the pattern, then stitch in place by hand, if needed use a sewing machine over the top edges of the ribbon for a more secure finish. Gather a length of leftover blue ribbon to create a rosette, stitch the rosette to a rope of faux pearls to make the matching belt or to wear as a necklace.

Chanel Shorts Outfit Cruise 2012

When I saw the Chanel Cruise 2012 collection at Eden Roc last year I instantly fell for the retro shorts outfits. Now the collection is in the stores but unless you have endless finances the price alas is way beyond the average budget.

I checked eBay already to see if any if the pieces are on auction yet -wishful thinking I know - but I did find a small size of the chanel 12c silk walking shorts - but still too expensive and way more than I would ever spend on a pair of shorts even if I could afford it.

However it is possible to create this look with a minimal outlay.
The chanel shorts is silk with pleats. You can find past season Tommy Bahama silk pleated walking shorts on ebay and get a similar look with the luxurous feel of silk for under $30.00.
the Chanel pants has an inverted pleat on the side seams - if you can sew and want the extra pleated look seen on the chanel pants look for a bigger size than you normally wear and then make a tuck in to create the extra pleats.

The cream cashmere top and cardigan from Chanel is embellished with iron on hotfix rhinestuds and sequins, I looked at the one in the chanel store and thought it would be easy enough to interpret.
Look for a plain cream or off white polo shirt - I found a nice used J Crew cashmere one on eBay for under $20.00. Also on eBay I found iron on hotfix rhinestuds and sequins that can be applied to create a border.
The result is a similar looking outfit in silk and cashmere for under $60.
